I cannot overemphasize to you the importance of becoming a trained leader. As Baden Powell once said, “Every Scout deserves a Trained Leader!” We have a large Troop and it is vital that we have a large group of trained leaders. If you have recently joined the Troop, you may be wondering how you can get involved. When I first joined, I felt the same way. I wanted to help but I did not know what to do and no one had the time to spoon feed it to me. Once I completed the entire training regimen through OLS, I realized there were many places I could help and I had the confidence to grab a job a run with it. That is what I need from you. With many people, I do not have the time to train each person. That is why BSA works so hard to provide excellent training classes for adult leaders. Many of the classes can be taken on-line at http://olc.scouting.org . To work with the Boys in Troop 757 at all, you must take these online classes;
1. Youth Protection
2. This is Scouting
3. Boy Scout Leaders Fast Start
Then you’ll need to take the Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training taught by the district and finally Outdoor Leaderships Skills (OLS) that is being offered November 13-15. Many of you have taken everything except the OLS class. Attached is a flyer for the OLS class coming up in November.
Again, we need adult leaders but we simply cannot have people working with Scouts that are not trained. The training is for the protection of the boys as well as the adults. In fact, if you have not taken the Youth Protection training, you don’t even need to be around the boys. I know that sounds harsh but it is the reality we live in today in this fallen world. If you have any questions, please contact me or the Bill Yell.
Yours in Scouting,
