Well it's a new year and I always like to set some goals and resolutions. While watching the news one morning, I heard Carl Rove say he set a goal of reading at least one book a week in 2010. That's a great goal so I have decided to do that myself and I've challenged my family and the Scouts to do the same thing. (BTW -- audio books count). So far I have completed "Uncommon" by Tony Dungy, "The Teeth of The Tiger," by Tom Clancy, and "Eat That Frog," By Brian Tracy. I'll update the list each week as I complete another book. Scouts who complete a book each week this year will be treated to a cook out at my house. ---- One of my other resoultions for the year is to be on time or early for every appointment. That means, we will start all of our Scout meetings on time at 6:00 and we'll dismiss promptly at 8:00. We'll have a 15 minute PLC meeting before and after each troop meeting and I will turn out the lights at 8:30. Please make every effort to have your son on time this year and please, please, please, be on time for pick ups.
Book List
1/1/2010 -- Uncommon by Tony Dungy -- Excellant Book about values. Some Adult topics
1/11/2010 -- Teeth of the Tiger by Tom Clancy -- Great adventure story but some adult language
1/18/2010 -- Eat that Frog by Brian Tracy -- Great book about time management, excellant for leaders
1/25/2010 -- Artic Drift by Clive Cussler -- Great adventure story and clean enough for whole family
2/1/2010 -- Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell -- Great book about success
2/8/2010 -- Liberty and Tirrany by Mark R. Levin -- Should be required reading for every highschool senior
2/15/2010 -- The Ezekiel Option by Joel C Rosenberg -- good book about end times just before the rapture
2/22/2010 -- The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch -- Great Book about what really matters in life.
3/1/2010 -- The Diary of Anne Frank: The Revisied Edition -- I picked this up at the Ann Frank Museum in Amsterdam. It includes many of Anne's writtings that were edited out of the original publication. It's a great book that demonstraits what happens when good people allow evil to flurish in their government and their community. However, Scouts should read the original publication and not this one.
3/8/2010 -- Wild at Heart by John Eldredge -- I re-read this book. I think it is a must read for Moms of Scouts. It will give Moms a little insight into why boys need to experience adventures and the outdoors. In this book Eldredge challenges Christian men to return to authentic masculinity without resorting to a "macho man" mentality.
3/15/2010 -- Robert E. Lee on Leadership: Executive Lessons in Character, Courage, and Vision by H.W. Crocker. This is a great book for all leaders. Thanks to Mr. Baruzinni for loaning it to me.
3/22/2010 -- The Navigator by Clive Cussler -- This is another great adventure story by Cussler. I love the way he weaves history into a current day story line. This is a very good book for Scouts because it has history and adventure and it is completely clean. No bad language or inappropriate content.
Yours In Scouting,
Mr. Spivey
